Alarplasty in Thailand
Alarplasty is a cosmetic surgical operation that reduces the size of the nasal nostrils.
To achieve equilibrium between nasal tip and alar, the alar of the nose is shortened and sutured in place.
The operation typically lasts around an hour.
Post-operative Care
Splint the nasal tip with 3-4 mm thin waterproof tape. Steri-strips can also be utilized. Wrap the strips around the tip of the nose and along both sides. All sutures are absorbable and do not require removal. Revision surgery should not be considered until at least 6 months have passed from the initial operation.
During the recovery time, you may have pain and discomfort in the nose area. However, drugs can help ease this. After 2-3 days, there will be no pain, but swelling in the nose and eyelid area will remain. Swelling and bruising around the eyes will subside within a week and last approximately 2 weeks. After 1-2 weeks, you can return to work. However, avoid intense activities that may cause swelling and bruising for the next 2-3 weeks. After removing the bandage and stitches, patients should take care not to damage their nose until it heals fully. Avoid placing glasses frames on the nose bridge for three weeks. During the first few days after surgery, patients may experience minor bleeding and discomfort that may last for weeks. To allow tissues to recover, patients should refrain from blowing their nose for about a week.
Possible dangers and problems: Serious complications are uncommon. The most common complication is patient unhappiness. Other concerns include hematoma, breathing obstruction, nasal damage, infection, edema, and bleeding.
Anesthesia includes IV sedation and local anesthesia (numbing medicines injected in the operative region).
Hospital admission: The patient might be discharged on the same day after surgery.
Preparation for surgery involves a medical history assessment (including allergies, major medical conditions, and medications), physical examination, and laboratory tests during consultation.
Avoid smoking for 3-4 weeks before surgery as it disrupts circulation and slows healing.
You may need to abstain from alcohol for a week prior to surgery and during recuperation.
Avoid using medications including hormones, anticoagulants, anabolic steroids, and vitamins for at least 4-6 weeks to prevent complications before surgery.
Avoid using aspirin, anti-inflammatory medicines, and herbal supplements as they can cause more bleeding.
